Winton 2 Queensland Australia

DAY 179 Wednesday 18 July WEEK 27.

Winton. Equally hard to imagine is that millions of years ago, these very plains were completely covered by an inland sea.

It was also inhabited by Dinosaurs. Yep, they have found fossilized skeletons of ancient Dinosaurs around here.

About 100 million years ago, there was a dinosaur stampede and the footprints of this have been frozen in time. The mud and footprints have turned into rock over the years and can still be seen today.

This amazing site is south of Winton. The tracks include a big Carnosaur measuring 2.6 meters at the hips, it was a carnivore - ate meat.

An Ornithopod, similar in shape and size of an Emu, this one was an herbivore - ate plants.

The other, a Coelurosaur, approximately the same size as an Emu chick, was an omnivore - ate bugs, plants.

Also, further over at Richmond, marine and dinosaur fossils were on display. One is the famous and best fossil of the fearsome Kronosaurus in the world.

This weird looken thing had a body that looked like a huge penguin and a head like a crocodile!! It was 12 meters long, and had teeth as big as BANANAS!! Yikes.

Actually, it looked like a herd of very heavy dinosaurs had pounded their way along this road and trashed it the state it was in!

We saw a load if camels in a paddock on the way through, also some very dusty looking emus running along the fence line.

Arrived at Longreach late afternoon. Many caravans on the road this day.
