Our 5Th Wheel RV Caravan Travels Continue - South WA
As we finished the Tree Top Walk, we made our way down the metal walkway to the forest floor.
This was another fascinating walk along wooden walkways and shaded paths, with many incredible sights along the way.
this hole was so big the walking path went straight through it
Red Tingle Trees are not found anywhere else in the world.
The ones in this area of forest are over 400 years old, and have an interesting characteristic. They have grown with irregular shapes near their roots.
you can see the red tinge to the bark - and odd shapes
These holes and shapes are caused by fungi, tree bugs and fire over hundreds of years.
The dead wood from these activities and events is eaten away and the tree keeps growing around the hollow made by these. Thus leaving the weird looking shapes in the base of the trunk.
razor grass
There were many clumps of Razor Grass growing on the forest floor. They are named so, because they have very sharp leaves.
These have big seed tufts that when dried out, feed forest birdlife and germinate their new plants.
see the pretty flower behind - some little forest animal has been munching on it.
There were also different varieties of pretty forest flowers along the path.
