Trip to Tocumwal (Toce). Here are a couple of snippets of Toce history, as we continue along on our 5th Wheel RV travels.
In Australia's early days, this was the land of the Bangarang and Ulupna Aboriginal People. Tucimiva, an Aboriginal word meaning - deep hole in the river, is where the town got its name.
There is a Dreamtime Story about a huge Murray Cod that lived in this big hole. Today by the river, a huge Murray Cod is displayed in town.

When Europeans started to farm the land in the 1800s, Toce became a town about 1870. A punt was used to go cross the river until a bridge was built in 1890-95.
The Murray River is wide here, with lovely yellow sandy beaches and tall gumtrees along its banks. Beautiful river gum forest with a community of Koalas. When we were here in January, the forest was very dry, but it is now greening up.
They can be spotted high up in the trees, sometimes with their young. Koalas, along with many other Australian animals are a protected and endangered species.
