Central Queensland. Left Black River and drove inland on the Flinders Highway through Charters Towers, and stopped overnight at a camping site half way between Charters and Hughenden. These country towns as we traveled along in our 5th wheel, had lots of Australian culture, history and identity.
Very cold that night. We camped overnight at Pentland - midway beween Toll and Hughenden. There were quite a few caravans parked there, and in the middle of the night, we went outside to see what all the noise was and there was this big long row of red lights in the darkness in front of all the caravans.
It was two road trains, with empty trailers. They had stopped to fix something. Would have given the caravans over that side a fright!
From our van, it looked like a UFO had landed in the Australian outback.
noisy aren't they
On the way, we saw hundreds of white Corella birds in a very big tree. They were making a terrible noise and mess; there were leaves and twigs all over the ground around the tree.
We had passed a couple of trees with the same leafy litter around them. Those pesky Corellas had obviously been there too.
