Our preparations were essential, as the 5th Wheel was going to be our home for some years. We took our time choosing one suitable for our needs.
We needed to be precise and we tried to anticipate as accurately as possible, not to double up on any items or take unnecessary ones.
Originally going to buy a really big unit maybe a 36-38 footer and a huge Ford F250. But decided we did not need such a big unit and settled for a lovely lightweight 26 ft "Forrest River" Rockwood 5th wheel. A Nissan Navara Turbo Diesel to pull.
The truck is a little underpowered at times so Hubby is looking at getting a LPG/Diesel fit out. Also had air springs fitted to the truck for the added weight of the caravan while traveling around the Australian outback.
our lovely new unit
The day we went up to Ballarat to bring the caravan home was very exciting.
Would you believe that very day, the owner of "Rockwood Caravans" in America was visiting 5th Wheelers Ballarat to see first hand where his units were being sold. Well! We got to meet him and his wife! He was also really pleased too, as he had never met anyone who had bought one of his vans in Australia.
He took a video of Tone, Snowy and I hitching up and getting ready to drive away, to show everyone back home. It was our first time doing this! - what pressure (imagine stuffing it up on video)
