Misty Mountain: Tully. Still raining, overcast grey day. Rain eased off a bit, decided to go for a drive up Misty Mountain to see the white water rapids and Tully Gorge. On the way through town, we found the BIG GUMBOOT. This gumboot was 7.9 metres high and this was the record rainfall for one year in the 70's.

The waterfalls should be fairly gushing down today after all the rain. The first part of the trip was through banana plantations.
Banana trees for as far as we could see. All with plastic bags over the bunches of bananas on each tree - millions of them!!!!! What an effort it must have been to put up all those plastic bags!
As we got a little higher up, we looked down onto the plantations and saw a vast area of banana tree tops.
tropical rain forest
Winding our way up the mountain, the scenery was unbelievably beautiful. The clouds were hanging low around the tops of the hills, and the Tropical Rain Forest was sparkling wet and looked and smelled so fresh and alive.
We spotted three bush turkeys in separate locations, legging it along the edge of the forest. These strange birds seem to run around everywhere in a terrible hurry, like the White Rabbit in Alice In Wonderland - "I'm late I'm late....Maryannne.."
glimpses of the river
As we drove up further, on the right we could see glimpses of the fast moving river down below between gaps in the thick forest.
