Manjimup. That's enough tall forest trees for the day. Now we headed to Northcliffe, over the Warren River and over to D'Entrecasteaux National Park. This name belongs to a famous French Navigator - Antoine Raymond Joseph de Bruni D'Entrecasteaux.
grasses bending to the gusty coastal wind
He sailed past this point in 1792, exploring and looking for a lost French ship captained by La Perouse. Antoine named this very point of rugged coastline after himself - thank goodness he only used his surname!
red bush flower just starting to open
This coastal section of the drive was beautiful with freshly different scenery. There were grasses in all shades of silver and brown, bending and blowing over in the wind. These contrasted with the waxy light and dark green leaves of the coastal shrubs. See second pic from top.
kangaroo paw flower
Along the way, there were lots of brightly colored Australian Native Flowers; mainly red, white and yellow, scattered amongst the grasses and low greenery.
fully opened red bush flowers
These included a red flowered prickly bush and big clumps of yellow and green kangaroo paw plants growing in the white sand.
