Fonty's Pool. Beautiful warm day. All chores done, snowy bathed, tick/flea treatment and wormed - Billy Budgie's cage cleaned, washing done. Off to the big pool for a swim and take some pics. The caravan park is right next to the pool.

How this Heritage Landmark came to be - Archimedes Fontanini - 'Archie Fonty' - was born in Italy and came out to Australia in 1904 landing in Fremantle Western Australia.
In 1907 the government granted him land near Manjimup (which did not exist yet). It was Archie’s task to clear and develop this piece of land.
beautiful pool and gardens
This was no easy task in those days. The nearest town and supplies were at Bridgetown, by horse and cart and the property was amongst dense virgin forest.
Archie's property had a big stream and he built a dam. Later on, he concreted the dam and built Fonty's Pool.
the other end of this huge pool and gardens
Archie and his wife Lucy also planted beautiful gardens and lawns around the house and dam. Many Community events were held at the Pool in the early days and still are to this day.
Archie and Lucy's lovely gardens have grown and matured over the years. They are a credit to the tireless efforts of these two West Australian Pioneers and their family under such difficult beginnings - Thankyou.
This is a very beautiful place and a popular picnic and swimming spot for locals and travelers.
