Kuranda - Cairns

DAY 149 Monday 18 June.

Queensland Australia Atherton Tableland

cairns from mountain look out

Kuranda: Still raining very heavily. Not much fun hitching up in the rain. Coming down in buckets. Wet and bedraggled - quick dry off and we were on the road again.

Could not see anything on the way. Too dark and gloomy. Arrived at Fishery Falls and still raining heavily. Rain too heavy to go anywhere, a cup of chocolate and a nap perhaps.

DAY 150 Tuesday 19 June.

Still raining!!!! The caravan park looks nice. Clouds hanging so low about the mountains, plus the rain, could not see them.

Went for a drive up to Cairns to check it out. It actually stopped raining by the time we got there.

We decided to drive up to Karanda.

The drive up the mountain was very steep and winding. World Heritage listed tropical rain forest towered over the road on both sides.

Unfortunately, the clouds were hanging very low this day, so could see nothing at the look outs on the way up.

Got to Kuranda Village, a busy little place. Then straight to Barron Falls.

misty rain forest walk

There was a beautiful walkway through the rain forest to the waterfall and Kuranda Railway Station.

Because the clouds were so low, it was very eerie and misty. There were patches where we could not see anything above or below the high walkway.
