Today we went for a drive along the river towards Murchison River Station.
murchison river - kalbarri in the background
It was an extremely rough sand track with huge holes, rocks, loose sand, etc, but loads of fun in the 4WD. There were lots of tiny tracks branching off, leading to secret fishing nooks along the way.
We have been watching from the caravan park; 4 wheel drives loaded with little boats and fishing equipment heading off into the scrub and disappearing in a cloud of dust down this track. Now we know where they have been going.
the 'good section' of the track!
We came across an oasis of beautiful river gums in the middle of nowhere. This consisted of a collection of sprawling gums with large shading branches. They looked out of place here, just this little section of sturdy tall trees, surrounded by low-lying spindly coastal scrub.
pink wildflowers
There were some wildflowers and flowering shrubs on the side of the track. Not many - I think the wildflower season starts later in the year.
On the way back, we could see Kalbarri in the distance bathed in the glow of another beautiful sunset.
