Gympie, Queensland Australia. Beautiful blue sky, lovely mild day.
Went for a lovely drive over the Blackall Mountain on the Scenic Drive. It was very steep, but well worth it.
on top of blackall mountain
We also drove through the Mary Valley where the Government were thinking of flooding the Mary River and building The Mary River Dam.
There were also levels marked all over the valley to show where the water would come to if it was flooded.
Also many angry signs of protest everywhere by the locals against this move.
It must be a horrible thing to have to move out of your lovely valley home and community, not of your own choosing.
I guess something has to be done, as Queensland is running out of water. They were on level 5 water restrictions.
An enquiry was in progress for this project and was on the news that night.
It reminded me of the old novel, made into a movie in 1941 - "How Green Was My Valley" - directed by John Ford, starred Maurine O'Hara, Walter Pidgeon and Roddy McDowal. This one could be called " How Wet Is My Valley"!!
our kenilworth cheese
We wound our way up to the mountain to Amamoor, Kandanga, Broolo, then Kenilworth - dairy country.
There was a cheese factory at Kenilworth and we stopped to have a look. They had all sorts of cheese that they made there by hand.
Also had samples of them to try ( much fun sampling! ) and we bought a lovely 'original old style cheddar,' matured for 12 months and stored in black wax. A delicious 'garlic and black pepper cheddar' ( My fav - Tone didn't like that one ) and a tub of 'marinated feta.'
We also got a little sample pack with biscuits to have on our picnic and it was very nice indeed.
