Gold Country - Bendigo
- A quick list of early Bendigo history, to show how this little place became a Boom Town in the 1800's Gold Rush.
- It was first a small settlement, known as Sandhurst.
- 1851 - gold was discovered at Bendigo (Sandhurst) Creek.
- The Great Australian Gold Rush had begun.
- 1856 - 300 claims were staked in one week!
- 1863 - Sandhurst was declared a town.
- 1891 the town of Sandhurst was renamed Bendigo.

Bendigo soon grew into a Gold Boom Town, with much wealth and prosperity. Beautiful buildings were erected, mainly in the Victorian Style.

elaborate old bankThey were very elaborate, with high slender towers, lots of small windows, fancy lace verandahs, cast-iron fencing, gargoyles, lions, dragons and old street lamps.
