Gold Country - Clunes - Victoria. Along this section of countryside, there were big mounds of white earth in the green fields. They really stood out. Maybe this is where they get the white clay for the Bendigo Pottery Factory. They did say they got their clay from Ballarat; this was close by to this area.
white mounds
These lovely old Australian towns along the way were beautiful. Lots of very old houses and buildings. We stopped at Clunes to have a cuppa and a spot of lunch.
old building in clunes
It was a sleepy little place, snuggled between a lush green valley and appears not to have changed for 100 years. This is really good to see; it keeps the old Australian identity alive.
a street in clunes
Clunes is famous; this is where they first found gold in Victoria in the 1850's.The main street looked like a movie set from an American Western Movie. With a wide street, long rows of shops with old shop fronts, hand painted signs, rusty tin roofs and rickety old verandahs.
spring blossoms everywhere
This was a pretty town with lots of white blossom trees and these looked lovely against the blue sky. There were also lots of old bare, grey deciduous trees, these must look beauiful in the summer.
