There is a drab, plain downstairs entrance - the staff and trades people would have used this. Also there is an arched alleyway, large enought for a horse and cart to come through and drop off supplies.

There are many beautiful buildings in this area, old banks, the Civic Theatre, War Memorial to name a few. There is a huge over-the-top Gothic Cathedral on a small hill in the middle of Bendigo.

According to the Tourist Info, it was the last Gothic Cathedral ever built in the world. It actually looks out of place, as though an enormous Abbey from England has been transported in time and materialised on a small Bendigo hill.

The sheer size of the place is amazing, and quite unnecessary, one would think for a small city, especially when it was first built. They obviously had more money than sense in those days!
