Forbes. Hot day. Sorting out stuff and having rest, catching up with emails etc - quiet caravan park.
Had look round the shops, bought a bra, Tone got a couple of cotton T shirts with a pocket for his specks (most important).
Had lunch at an old pub - recommended by the lady in the bra shop - always good to ask locals where to go.
Was very good - just like home cooking and decent serves.
The walls in the pub were very old, and could see the rough cut stones with the mud used to stick them together.
These days, they have a coating on them otherwise would just crumble away.
Could see some of the old structure, ie, huge thick lintel above the doors and some old thick beams.
I always wonder who built these lovely old places in Downunder's early years. They have so much character, history and Australian identity.
csiro radio wave dish - parkes
DAY 33 Tuesday 20 Feb
Forbes. Went for drive up to Parkes to see 'THE famous DISH'
Scenery on the way to Parkes was not as dry as Forbes, with undulating hills and ploughed paddocks with lovelly patches of autumn colours - very attractive.
The CSIRO DISH SITE was about 20k's on from Parkes. It was magnificent, and well worth a visit.
Saw a really good picture of McNaught's comet that we had seen in Koonoomoo- it's tail was very long.
Had a modern visitors centre and cafe. Had jolly pot of tea and a yummy nut chocolate biscuit.
While we were there, they moved the dish right around and down till it touched the ground - got some good piccies - these two in fact!
They were doing maintenance on the dish. This is where they made the really good film, The Dish with Sam Neil.
Back to Parkes. Went into Woolies to have look around, and had to wait for ages at front of the shop because the fire alarm went off.
A huge fan in the ceiling come on automatically and it was so loud, sounded like a helicopter on the roof - scared the shite out of me - was standing right under it.
We had a fun picnic with Snowy in a little park in Parkes!
Back to Forbes and had a cool swim in the caravan park pool.
