Port Denison is a quiet little fishing town just down the road from Dongara. Both these towns are known as 'The Lobster Capital' of WA.
Port Denison has an attractive harbor and shoreline, protected by Leander Reef. This reef is named after the the ship 'Leander' that was shipwrecked here in the 1800's. Many a wooden sailing ship came to grief along this coastline in the early days.
At Fishermans Lookout, there is a Memorial to Fishermen and Ship Wreck Victims who have perished in these waters. There is an Obelisk and Beacon, the only remaining of two, built in the 1860's.

From here, we drove down to South Beach. This is a lovely stretch of shoreline with white sand and sand dunes.
Then back to Dongara heading for the main road, we drove past thick coastal scrub and snow white sand dunes partially covered in bright green foliage. These looked beautiful against the bright blue sky.
Then on the main road we stopped at the Caltex Service Station and had one of their Prize Winning Pies - famous in this area. They were quite yummy. We had our lunch at the back of the Service Station. It doesn't sound too flash does it? But at the back, they have a nice decked and covered area overlooking a now dry creek and beautiful gumtrees. Just the spot to have a cuppa and gourmet pie.
