Curlew birds

Curlew birds

DAY 131 Tuesday 29 May.

Australia Bush Stone Curlews: Rained again during the night. Nice sunny day, although still quite a bit of cloud about.

Drove up to Shute Harbor to get some better pics as the sun was out this time. Tone videod a tourist boat heading out to the islands.

Airlie Beach Lagoon

Then down to Airlie Beach to have a look at the swimming lagoon.

It is very nice, with lots of green grass and shady areas to lounge around the water's edge.

It was like a giant swimming pool made to look like a beach. Great spot for a safe stinger-free swim.

Had a yummy Cold Rock Icecream on the way home. I had malted milk icecream with caramello koala and maltesers smashed into mine. Tone had cheesecake icecream with bounty bar. Yummy.

Curlews at night

curlews, this pic and one below taken at night

Also found the elusive birds at last, it had been raining and they don't come out in the wet.

These were funny looking things with long spindly legs and a long thin body and head, very bright brown eyes.

Their feathers are light and dark brown and when they stand still, they blend into the surrounding brown dirt and foliage.

Curlew Bird Queensland

They had a mound (nest) at either side of the park, and met at the little stream just up from our RV.

They walked around freely, making a weird shrill noise. At night they all got together, sounded like screeching monkeys.

I took the pic above in the dark with flash. Need a daytime one.
