Country Victoria 2

Country Victoria continued.

Traveled slowly through the dry country, via Sheparton, Cobram and Kiabram. Staying overnight at our first free park/rest area at McCoy's Bridge - east of Wyuna.

It was extremely hot and there were hundreds of sticky little black flies. We were the only ones there. Everyone must have been at the caravan parks with aircon! It was a big parking area with lots of river gums, a farm on one side and bridge and road in the distance on the other.

We watched Monty Python - Eric Idle - that Luce gave Tone for Xmas, to keep our minds off the stifling heat. Hoping for a breeze to come up, but alas, no breeze!

There was a beautiful sunset, pinky orange and the morning light was lovely over the farm and cut wheat fields.

We had a very hot uncomfortable night, as we had not filled the petrol container to use the generator for aircon. Learning all the time - won't make that mistake ever again!

the dry cracked soil

The fields were extremely dry, the soil so hard and cracked, it was hard to imagine anything being able to grow.

I'm sure most people living in the city don't realise how bad the drought is. I didn't really until I saw it for myself.
