Gold Mine

DAY 198 Monday 6 August.

Cobar. Lovely caravan park, lots of thick green grass, space and big shady trees. Haven't seen thick green grass for a long while.

Will probably stay for a week to catch up on computer work. Warm day, bright blue sky with a few fluffy clouds. The weather is still nice and warm during the day, very cold at night.

looking down from view point

We drove over to Australia's new NSW open cut gold mine. As we got closer to Fort Bourke Lookout, there was no sign of a mine.

But as soon as we stood on the viewing platform and looked down, Yikes!! There was a very big, very deep hole, where they are digging the mine. This 'hole' is 125 metres from where we were standing, down to the base.

there is a very small opening near the sheds below

There was a small entrance to the mine right down at the the base, leading underground. Here they have started the underground phase. A very scary road wound its way down to the bottom, with a sheer drop on one side. 'Tis a long way down.
