Cobar - Canbelego

DAY 211 Sunday 19 - Day 217 Saturday 25 August - WEEK 30

Cobar -Canbelego. On a beautiful sunny day, we decided to go for a drive out into Cobar outback country. Firstly we drove on the Barrier Highway towards Nyngan and turned off at Boppy Mount. Then a little further on, onto a gravel road to Canbelego.

The scenery to Canbelego and Nymagee was incredibly beautiful. The road was in good condition for gravel.

Along the first leg of the journey, the countryside was flat, red dirt as far as the eye could see and low silvery green shrubs. The fenced properties were sparsely treed with lots of dead, grey spindly tree trunks and branches sticking up everywhere.

5k's from the highway, we went through the very small place called Canbelego, consisting of a couple of houses.

We could see some wildflowers along the roadside and through the paddocks. They were not yet in flower, exept for a few. We were a couple of weeks too early for them. The locals say they are spectacular when in full bloom.

Family groups of goats ran across the road several times on our journey. They had kids with them, and they looked very healthy and well fed. Also lots of free grazing, very dirty red sheep.

These roamed freely with their lovely new white lambs, which were gambolling and having fun together. They still had their long woolly tails. We had fun watching them from a distance. Snowy sat up and watched them too, tilting her head from side to side and smiling.
