Charleville. Drove down from Charleville, through Cunnamulla to Barringun. Beautiful outback scenery. Vast distances with only a few cattle stations dotted here and there.
queensland outback road heading towards nsw border
On the way down the highway, saw dark brown cattle grazing on the sparce clumps of grey grass. Also some dusty red sheep come out of nowhere and ran across the road.
Lots of white goats were also grazing on the side of the road and ran back into the sparce bush land when we passed. There were quite a few kids amongst them, they looked very healthy.
one side of the same stretch of road covered in wildflowers
Three big kangaroos also jumped across the road in the middle of the day, which was unusual. They are usually resting under the shade during the day.
Saw lots of lovely wildflowers on the road side and covering paddocks. In some paces, the wildflowers were so thick on one side of the road, but on the other side, just red dirt and low shrubs.
other side of the same stretch of road, bare
The flowers looked beautiful from a distance and the colors ranged from white to yellow, green, magenta and purple. We stopped to have a look and I was surprised, some looked lovely and soft, but were covered in hidden prickles.
Good protection from hungry grazing animals I guess. The Australian outback can be quite pretty and always changing, always beautiful.
the beautiful colors
Not many petrol stations between these outback places, so need to make sure have enough before starting out.
This highway was rather bumpy in places and the 5th Wheel must have had a couple of sharp jolts inside, as the microwave glass turntable smashed to little pieces! Also our last 2 ceramic mugs. Have been on much worse roads than this, but have not broken stuff inside before.
