Cape Leeuwin. Not far from the Lighthouse, there was an old Water Wheel on the shore line. It was built in 1895 the same time as the lighthouse. Local limestone was used for the buildings and they used this water to make the mortar.
the old water wheel
It worked like this - water from a fresh spring traveled along the wooden channel and over the wheel, then pumped to the lighthouse buildings - see pic below.
There were lots of unusual rock formations at this site. One section of rocks looked like giant brown feet all in a row with the toes in the air - see last pic on page.

On the way back to Big Valley, we stopped at a few lovely wineries, tasted, selected and purchased some to go with our local cheese.
There are too many wineries here to mention them all, but they are famous in this area for their excellent award winning wines - mainly white. Some large, some small, they all have their unique tasting wines.
the rock formations - can you see the feet?
Many of the wineries are off the main road along beautiful tree lined, narrow country roads. There is an organic wine cellar here that we wanted to visit, famous for their Rose, but alas they were closed.
