Rained most of the way to Kalgoorlie-Boulder. Much shorter drive today thank goodness. Very hot and humid - over 40 C here. Will be staying here for a week to have a look around. We love the old country mining towns around Australia.

Day 367 Tuesday 22 January WEEK 52
Some snippets of Early History
It is now one year and two days since we took off on our 5th Wheel Travels. This time last year we were in Koonoomoo Victoria.
1893. Gold was first discovered at Mount Charlotte, north of the Golden Mile - now known as the Super Pit. Thus started the biggest gold rush in Western Australia's history. The enormous gold mine - the Super Pit now stretches between Boulder and Kalgoorlie.

1894. Kalgoorlie was called Hannan's Find in the early days after Paddy Hannan, the first to discover gold in the area. It was changed to Kalgoorlie in 1894 from the local Aboriginal name - Coolgoorlie. The C was replaced with a K to save confusion with the nearby town of Coolgardie.
1989. Boulder and Kalgoorlie once separate towns were amalgamated to form the city of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
