Boulder 3 - Metropole Hotel ContinuedBoulder today. The Hotel is close to the Super Pit and many old mine shafts and tunnels are still there and run beneath the town.
The Surprise; when the cellar was being renovated in 2000, a mine shaft was found right under the Main Bar floor. They replaced a section of the floor boards with an armour plated glass viewing platform and the mine shaft can be viewed through the floor. You have to walk over it to get behind the bar. See pic below.
To be safe, the original mine shaft and tunnel were blocked off under the hotel at this time. Just think, if the mine shaft had not been discovered and left as it was, maybe part of the hotel could have disappeared down the deep labrynth of tunnels!
