Blackall Outback Queensland Australia

Day 182 Saturday 21 July.

Extremely cold night and morning. Set off for Blackall through Ilfracombe and Barcaldine down the Matilda Highway.

Ilfracombe is also a place in Devon, England. A beautiful very green, scenic coastal town and seaside resort.

Our Aussie Ilfracombe is vastly different - nestled in the dry Queensland outback, miles away from the coast.

The famous Wellshot Hotel was on the main road, and had an interesting history.

In the 1880’s it originally started off as a traveling pub following the railway camps as the railway line was being built.

Both Ilfracombe and Barcaldine were quiet country towns, oozing with Australian history, identity and folk lore.

They had displays of old farming equipment, museums jam packed with old Australian, outback pioneer cottages and much more.

Arrived at Blacky, sun shining and lovely and warm. Very nice caravan park. Unhitched and sorted everything out inside the 5th wheel. All set up to stay for a week or so.
